📖 Race Rules

Kobolds are a small but extremely dangerous race of lizard origin. At first glance, they may appear inconspicuous—their stature is smaller than most other races, and their bodies are not built for brute strength. However, this cost many opponents their lives. Kobolds excel in speed, intelligence and the ability to exploit every weakness of the enemy. Their home is the Great Plains, a vast and unsettled land where kobolds have been competing with another ancient nation - the centaurs - for generations. This conflict is so old that few people remember its true beginning. But one thing is certain: both nations know that there is no place for two rulers on these plains. Kobolds usually live in smaller tribal communities that move quickly, adapt, and survive even in the harshest conditions. However, their real strength does not lie only in their agility. Kobolds are among the races that were able to understand and assimilate human magic surprisingly quickly. The knowledge they gained from the Imperial mages—sometimes by learning, sometimes by theft—they were able to turn against the Empire itself. With this combination of magic, speed, and unexpected strategy, the kobolds were able to defend the Great Plains from alien domination. Yet they remain a restless nation. Raids into the border regions of the Empire, especially the Westmark, are a common part of life among the kobold tribes. For them, it's just a way to survive and get what their own country doesn't offer.

🦴 Evolutionary Origin
Kobolds
a naturally occurring humanoid race 🌍 swamps, wetlands, densely vegetated areas and humid inhospitable regions ⏳ ~300 years

Kobolds are an exceptional branch of humanoids that have retained a number of reptilian adaptations. Their lizard-like appearance, tail and flexible body structure are related to long-term development in a swampy and difficult to pass environment.

🏛 History of the People
Centaurs, kobolds, and peoples without crowns

free nations and defensive territorial communities

centaurs kobolds nations without kingdoms the world's longest conflict

Both centaurs and kobolds took a different path in their larger historical development than elves, humans or dwarves. Instead of large kingdoms and complex hierarchies, they created freer nations tied to a specific territory, personal freedom and defense of their own space.

⚔ Subraces
Juggernaut
Juggernaut

Juggernauts represent the highest caste of kobold society. These individuals are selected and trained from a young age to master the ancient magical teachings that kobolds call ancestral energy. Their training is not just about studying spells. Juggernauts also learn to control their own mind and body through special meditative states. These techniques allow them to focus and use energy much more efficiently than other humanoids. Thanks to this, they can enhance their abilities during the fight, react faster than the opponent and sometimes even overcome the physical limits of their own body. Becoming a juggernaut is a huge honor for any kobold. However, not everyone survives this journey. The training is dangerous, and failure can mean not only loss of status, but also death. This is precisely why their numbers are few - and their authority among the kobolds is almost unshakable.

Mystic
Mystic

The Mystics are a mysterious order of kobolds who have dedicated their lives to the knowledge of magic and the secrets of the world. Unlike juggernauts, who combine magic with martial prowess, mystics seek knowledge above all else. It is they who were the first to understand the principles of human magic. While many older races viewed human sorcery with distrust or disdain, the mystics recognized it as a new source of power. This knowledge changed the history of the Great Plains. Kobold mystics were able to use spells and magical tactics in ways that their enemies did not expect. In several battles, they even turned the tide of the conflict and forced the Imperial armies to retreat back beyond their borders. Although they do not have the authority of juggernauts, they are considered the second highest caste among kobolds. To ordinary kobolds, mystics are not only scholars, but also keepers of secrets that may decide the future of their nation.

Naga kobold
Naga kobold

Naga kobolds are a special branch of the kobold nation that has adapted to life along the shores of the Green Sea. Their abodes lie on the beaches and rocky shores of the Great Plains, where their culture was gradually transformed by the influence of the sea. Unlike their relatives, naga kobolds are more robust and physically stronger. Their bodies are well adapted to swimming and living in an aquatic environment. They are excellent swimmers and can often fight just as well on land as in water. Many legends tell of treasures hidden in the depths of the Green Sea. According to these stories, it was the naga kobolds who were able to pull the ancient artifacts and forgotten relics from the sea that they now guard in their coastal strongholds. Unlike other kobold tribes, naga kobolds rarely engage in wars against other races. Their real rivalry is between themselves. After all, control over the coast and sea lanes means wealth, power and influence. And some prophets among them believe that one day it is from their coastal cities that the first great kobold empire could rise—one that would command both respect and fear throughout Ulvenor.
