Untred V's Eastern Campaign

Magnursie — House of Youlenders military campaign 1 462 IC

Untred V's eastern campaign followed the plan of his father Untred IV. The disease-weakened nomads were unable to resist effectively, and the empire gained new territories under its rule. It was the first significant territorial gain in almost a thousand years.

A campaign prepared by the previous government

Untred V ascended the throne at the moment when his father left a prepared situation in the East. The nomadic army was decimated by disease and its ability to resist was greatly weakened. The new emperor could thus complete the plan that Untred IV. didn't have time to do it.

Gaining new territories

Campaigning was much easier than it would have been against a healthy and fully organized opponent. The empire acquired new eastern territories and extended its rule into areas that had previously remained outside its firm control. It was an extraordinary moment, because after almost a thousand years the empire was regaining not only stability, but also new territory.

Victory with a dark shadow

Untred V's success was politically significant, but his origins were burdened by the use of a biological weapon under the previous government. The campaign was thus both a triumph and a reminder of how far the empire was willing to go. Nevertheless, it enhanced the prestige of the current emperor and created the impression that the late empire could once again enter an era of expansion.
