Howl of Eternity Changelog
Overview of all versions and changes made to the rules, systems, and world content of Howl of Eternity.
v1.11 Online Play Improvements
A mini release focused on online play. The lobby chat gets working emoji and a readable log of character sheet changes, players can now whisper to each other with a proper recipient picker, the game master gains quick numeric HP editing and full control over sheet locking. Two spell duration fixes are included as well.
v1.1 English Localization and a More Stable Website
Howl of Eternity now includes an English localization, a more stable server, clearer rule descriptions, and additional balance updates. The rules are easier to share, easier to read, and friendlier to international parties.
English website localization
The website now has an English version for players who do not read Czech. The main pages, rules, character builder, character sheet, search, and a large part of the world encyclopedia are available in English. Language switching leads to the matching English pages, making the system easier to share with international parties.
Server and online-play optimization
The server has been tuned for more reliable online games, smoother recovery after deploys, and lower pressure during full-party sessions. Long sessions are more stable too: the online lobby keeps game state and chat history more reliably, including whispered messages.
Balance adjustments
Several smaller race-bonus and rules-detail adjustments were made to make character creation choices feel more distinct. Specific rules changes are listed below so players can jump straight to the affected rule.
Elves have a new racial bonus
Elves now gain a +1 bonus to Animal Handling and Healing. Their racial identity leans more clearly into longevity, a bond with nature, and the ability to support allies.
Clearer descriptions for attributes, abilities, and spells
Rules text has been revised so attributes, skills, abilities, and spells are easier to understand in play. More descriptions now explain combat and non-combat use, prerequisites, cooldowns, spell targets, and links between related rules.
More accessible controls
The website is more comfortable for players using a keyboard or assistive technology. It now has visible focus states, a skip link to the main content, clearer button labels, and reduced-motion support for motion-sensitive users.
Clearer long-page navigation
Long rules, character sheet, builder, and encyclopedia pages now have more stable side navigation. Important links stay within reach while reading, making it easier to move between sections and return to details.
Combat fixes
Combat and the online character sheet received a stability pass. Weapon attacks, combat modals, leaving combat, and English combat-log text were cleaned up so play feels more reliable in both Czech and English.
v1.0 Howl of Eternity Web Version
Howl of Eternity now has a web version, character creation, and online sessions for parties, alongside balance updates for abilities, skills, and classes, revised tier descriptions, and expanded lore for the world of Oia and the continent of Ulvenor.
Howl of Eternity web version
The whole world of Howl of Eternity is now available as a web app. Rules, story, attributes, and equipment systems are clearly structured and connected through interactive links and detail panels.
Character Creation
Added an interactive web character creator with a step-by-step guide. It supports race, subrace, class, stat and skill distribution, abilities, and spells. The result is a complete character sheet ready for play or printing.
Online sessions for parties
The website supports full online sessions. If players cannot meet in person, they can create a game, share the party code, and play together online with live-synced character sheets and combat. No registration or installation required.
Ability balancing
Reworked ability descriptions and effects for better clarity. Adjusted prerequisites and cooldowns for selected abilities so they better match their intended playstyle.
Skill balancing
Adjusted bonuses and effects for individual skill tiers. Every skill now has a detailed description for combat and non-combat use, including examples and tier effect descriptions.
Class balancing
Reworked abilities gained at individual class levels. Adjusted hybrid stats and skill bonuses so each class has a clear playstyle and unique identity.
Spell and magic system
All spells now have detailed descriptions of effects, targets, casting time, and cooldowns. Added Czech labels for spell effect and target types. Corrected minimum rolls for all spell levels.
Story of Oia and Ulvenor
Expanded the story of the world of Oia, especially the continent of Ulvenor. Added sections on history, religion, nations, important locations, and the current era. Added the Ulvenor calendar and dynastic lines.
Rules simplification and improvements
Increased focus on clarity and readability. Improved enchantment display with clear quality lists. Added interactive links between skills, abilities, and stats throughout the rules system.
Interactive map of Ulvenor
Added an interactive map of the continent of Ulvenor. Hovering over a location label shows a short description; clicking opens that location's detail or parent region. Optional small colored flags can mark territory types such as cities, mountains, forests, deserts, and seas. The same map is available in the Atlas of Ulvenor.
Game Master guide
Added an extensive Game Master guide: a teaching example of the first campaign, Shadows over the Western March. It leads the GM step by step from the first session and the Adventurers' Guild through an urban investigation in Woulden, a one-shot in Hvozdenice, and the open region of the Western March. Each chapter teaches a concrete GM skill and includes templates that can be reused in a custom campaign.
Guilds of Ulvenor
Added the Guilds of Ulvenor section: nine major guilds, orders, brotherhoods, and secret societies that shape everyday life and hidden power across the continent. Each guild has a detailed page with history, philosophy, hierarchy, entry trials, rewards, story hooks for GMs, and gameplay tips.
Glossary
Added a glossary of more than 270 terms from across Howl of Eternity: names, institutions, dynasties, historical events, places, titles, and recurring expressions. It can be filtered by letter or full text, links related terms, and points to detail pages when they exist.
Character sheet improvements
The character sheet gained several practical play improvements. It now has separate fields for cash and stored gold. Ability prerequisites and race/class duplicates are checked. Attacks show the same weapon icons as the rules. Multiplayer and solo combat now share similar controls.
Site-wide search
The search box at the top of the website searches all content: rules, attributes, classes, races, abilities, spells, lore stories, rulers, people, places, guilds, and glossary terms. Tags and chips across the website are clickable and lead either to a detail page or to search results for that term.
