📖 Race Rules

The world of Ulvenor is not only made up of races that players can choose as their characters. In its depths, forests, wastelands, and forgotten ruins, there are countless other creatures that shape its history, balance, and danger. Some of these races are older than the Empire itself, others arose as a result of magic, wars, or long-forgotten experiments. These beings often act as unpredictable forces—sometimes as allies, other times as threats that cannot be ignored. They do not follow the laws of civilization and often not even the logic known to other races. Meeting them can mean business, alliance, but also death. In Howl of Eternity, these races are an important tool for the Game Master. They bring the world to life, create tension and give depth to the stories. They aren't intended for casual play, but their presence is key to understanding just how dangerous, mysterious, and changeable Ulvenor really is.

⚔ Subraces
Trolls
Trolls

Trolls are ancient beings associated with wild and untamed nature. Their bodies are huge, strong and almost indestructible. Wounds that would kill another creature can heal within a short time. They live mainly in deep forests, swamps and remote areas where civilization hardly penetrates. Most trolls are territorial and aggressive, protecting their territory regardless of the consequences. However, there are exceptions - some tribes have managed to develop a special relationship with the surrounding races and trade in exchange for food or raw materials. However, such encounters are rare and always risky.

Fairies and faeries
Fairies and faeries

Fairies and faeries are beings closely associated with the ancient magic of the world, often referred to as Essence. They inhabit places where this energy is strongest - sacred groves, forgotten forests and areas untouched by civilization. Their existence is a mystery to many races. Sometimes they appear as guides, other times as deceptive illusions that lead pilgrims to destruction. Their magic is not crude or destructive, but subtle and inscrutable - it can influence the mind, nature and the very perception of reality. Dealing with them means entering a world where normal rules do not apply.

Undead
Undead

The undead are not a natural race, but the result of a disturbance in the balance between life and death. They arise through dark magic, forbidden rituals, or as echoes of ancient wars that left the land scarred. From soulless skeletons to powerful beings who wield death itself, the undead represent one of Ulvenor's greatest threats. They are not driven by the emotions or needs of the living. They are powered by magic, the will of their creator, or ancient curses. Where they appear, the world changes - life recedes and is replaced by cold, silence and inevitable decay.

Gnomes
Gnomes

Gnomes are a small but extremely intelligent people who stand on the border between magic and technology. Their origin is not entirely clear - some scholars claim that they are distant relatives of dwarves, others believe that they arose as a byproduct of ancient magical experiments. Whatever the truth, the gnomes have created their own unique culture. They live mostly in smaller communities hidden underground or in remote areas far from major cities. Their mansions are filled with strange machines, alchemical devices, and experimental constructs that often teeter on the edge of genius and chaos. Gnomes are obsessed with knowledge - constantly exploring, testing and improving the world around them. Unlike dwarves, who rely on tradition and perfection, gnomes welcome mistakes as part of progress. Their inventions are sometimes dangerous, sometimes revolutionary, but always fascinating. In Howl of Eternity, gnomes are a symbol of curiosity and the constant pushing of boundaries—and a reminder that not everything that can be created should actually be used.
