The Council of Unicorns decided the future of Magnursia at a time when the main dynastic line had all but disintegrated. The election of James I the Reformer opened the way to a new phase of state and magical transformation.

The rally lasted for dozens of days and showed that the dynasty could no longer rely on a simple transfer of power. The Diet was looking for a ruler who would not only be legitimate, but also able to hold the country together. This made Jakob I, a candidate based on the northern branch of the family as well as his own practical strength.

Tax and ensign reform

Jacob's government then brought tax reform and a new military system of ensigns. Both changes fundamentally reshaped the functioning of the kingdom. These were not isolated technical steps, but a realignment of power between the center, the provinces and the military command.

The first official school of magic

Jakob went on to create the first official school of magic within the royal environment. In doing so, he elevated magic from a fringe phenomenon to a state-protected institution. It is this move that opens the true beginning of the Magic Kings era.
