The war system of John I.

Magnursie — Kings of Magic military-state transformation 103–79 BIC

John I turned the war into a system of defense, supply and controlled attrition of the enemy. His reign has shown that Magnursie can win not only by striking, but also by patience, environment and the right combination of allies.

Defense strategy

John I realized that open struggle at any cost could lead to collapse. Therefore, he based his defense on fortresses, secret escape routes and gradual exhaustion of the enemy. This created a new style of warfare that utilized depth of field and the ability to survive long pressure.

Nomad and orc allies

The king recruited orcs and nomads on a large scale, enriching the army with completely different fighting styles. Thus, for the first time, Magnursia really absorbed foreign military traditions as part of its own system. This openness proved to be one of the key strengths of his rule.

The Battle in Hell and the Murdered King

The pinnacle of his system was the famous Battle of Hell, which definitively broke one of the great elven offensives. Nevertheless, Jan did not reach the end of his work. He was assassinated by unknown assassins at a moment when it seemed that he was beginning to really turn the war around. It is this sudden death that gives his reign a special power of unfinished victory.
