The rise of the First Elven Empire and the war with the desert goblins
The rise of the desert goblins forced the fragmented elven nations to join forces for the first time in history. Under the leadership of the Sylvar, the First Elven Empire was formed, which managed to stop the goblin raids and create the first real state entity on Ulvenor.
The world before the empire
Before the rise of the First Elven Empire, the elves lived divided into many clan communities and smaller settlements, scattered among the forests and fertile regions of southern Ulvenor. They were culturally and technologically more advanced than most other races, but lacked a unified political structure. Each community administered its territory independently, and relationships between them were based on tradition and kinship rather than true unity. This state worked for a long time because the elves faced only limited external threats.
Rise of the Desert Goblins
Meanwhile, another force was forming in the southeast of the continent. The desert goblins, adapted to the extreme conditions of the scorching deserts, began to build the first larger settlements and gradually developed their own way of warfare. Their expeditions were fast, unpredictable and based on ambushes, poisons and exhausting the enemy. At first, these were smaller raids, but gradually they began to reach deep into elven territories. Some residences were destroyed and entire areas destabilized. The elves initially underestimated the threat. They saw the orcs as fragmented raiders, not as a civilization capable of organized pressure. This error led to the first major crisis in their history.
Uniting under Sylvar
Repeated attacks gradually forced the elven clans to reconsider their way of existence. It was obvious that the independent defense of individual settlements was not enough. It was during this period that Sylvar emerged, a figure who was able to change the course of Elven history. Sylvar understood that the true weakness of the elves was not the strength of the enemy, but their own fragmentation. She began to unite the individual clans, create alliances, and build the first real system of superior power. From these steps, the First Elven Empire was born. For the first time in the history of Ulvenor, a state unit was created that went beyond the boundaries of individual communities and was able to coordinate the defense and administration of a larger area. Government thus ceased to be merely personal and became institutional.
Elven victory at the Maple Grove
The decisive moment of the entire conflict came in 14,892 before the Imperial year, when the desert goblins launched another great raid into elven territories. They expected easy prey, as in the past, and had no idea that they were facing an entirely new force. Sylvar already had a unified army at her disposal, and above all, elite units of elven rangers - cloaked archers who perfectly mastered combat in a forest environment. In the battle that took place in the area later known as Maple Grove, the goblins were surprised, surrounded and systematically destroyed. The rangers broke their front lines before a direct encounter could take place, and the rest of the Elven army subsequently completed the rout. The two great goblin tribes were on the verge of extinction and the rest were forced to retreat deep into the deserts. This victory marked a definitive turning point in the war.
Strengthening borders and a new order
After the victory, the elves left nothing to chance. They systematically strengthened the borders of their empire, created defensive lines and established permanent surveillance over the border areas. For a long time after that, they did not allow any desert goblins to penetrate back into their territory. Thus, the first elven empire became not only a military victory, but a stable political entity. Territorial administration, organized defense and the first form of long-term order emerged. Sylvar was worshiped as a goddess after her death, and her reign acquired not only political but also spiritual significance. Elven society thus entered a new era in which unity was considered the basis of survival.
Legacy of conflict
The wars with the desert goblins left a deep mark on both sides. The elves gained their first empire and confirmed the importance of unity, but at the same time suffered losses that affected their further development. The desert goblins were not destroyed, only pushed back. Their defeat became one of the darkest moments in their history and a source of long-standing hatred towards the elves. The rise of the First Elven Empire thus represents one of the most fundamental milestones in the history of Ulvenor - the moment when fragmented communities became a true state and when it was first shown that unification could change the fate of an entire nation.
