William II Unifier
William II he took over the empire at a time of peace, economic growth, and growing confidence in the stability of the Aryan government. It was precisely for this reason that he could turn his energies to the restoration and unification of the empire. During his reign, new architecture spread, the calendar was unified, sewers, culture and the use of enchantment in the army were developed. But the monarch, who was able to build well, also tried to conquer at the end of his reign. His two campaigns against the Free Kingdom ended in failure and broke the nobility's confidence in his military abilities. William thus remains the ruler of two faces - as a man who united the empire, but could not return it to the glory of arms.
Dynastic Information
Heir to quiet growth
William II he ascended the throne at an exceptionally auspicious moment. After years of wars and dynastic breaks, the empire was finally getting stronger, the economy was getting into good numbers and the surrounding nations did not show significant warlike activity. This calm was not the result of his own work, but it was precisely because of how he dealt with it. And Vilem chose the path of restoration and unification. He began to support a new architecture associated with the house of Ariers, which was to give the empire a visible form of its own era. It wasn't just about aesthetics. Buildings, streetscapes and urban improvements created the impression of a world that is once again self-confident, orderly and culturally strong. Vilem thus also ruled through the image of an empire that is no longer just surviving, but creating again.
Calendar, sewers, and enchanted armor
One of William's most significant actions was the unification of the calendar. In a vast empire where both trade and administration took place over great distances, the diversity of timekeeping was a serious obstacle. The unified calendar facilitated communication, trade contracts and administration, and symbolically confirmed that the empire once again had one common rhythm. The construction of the sewage network was similarly practical. Vilem started with the capital, but gradually expanded the sewage system to other large cities. At the same time, he supported the spread of enchantment as a new and increasingly common type of magic, which also began to be used in the armament of the army. In addition, he had theaters and amphitheatres built and supported cultural life. All together created the image of a monarch who really wanted to civilize and connect the empire.
A war he couldn't win
At the end of his reign, however, Vilem yearned for military success, which would also crown his era in terms of weapons. He decided to strike against the Free Kingdom and started a war in 981. At first the situation was developing favorably and the empire was pushing the opponent back. But a night attack on the camp scattered the first expedition, the mercenary army of orc warriors fled, and the whole campaign turned into a bloody disgrace. William reacted quickly and sent a new army, this time more based on domestic forces. The second expedition was initially successful, capturing cities and castles, but then came the fateful decision to besiege the capital in winter. Poor logistics, lack of supplies and disease broke the entire siege before it could produce a decisive battle. That was the moment when William the Unifier became in the eyes of the nobility a monarch who could build but not conquer.
Fall of confidence and prelude to war
After the unsuccessful war, William's authority began to weaken rapidly. The nobles ceased to see him as a leader who could expand the empire or at least defend its prestige with arms. They forced him to end the conflict, which was very humiliating for the empire. William spent the rest of his life mainly trying to maintain his power and prevent the aristocracy from openly opposing him. At the end of his reign, some of the nobility were already openly calling for new imperial elections. Vilem wanted to prevent this, but he could not reverse the growing resistance. His death thus opened the way to the First Power War. Nevertheless, the surname Unifier remains with him rightfully, because in times of peace he was able to really unite the empire. He just couldn't accept that building and conquering are two different skills.
