Edward I. Banished
Edward I succeeded his father Oled I, but his reign was fraught with suspicion from the start that his entire line was based on murder and usurpation. Part of the Youlenders decided that this branch must not continue because it threatened the stability and legitimacy of the house. Edward was forced to abdicate under the threat of civil war and power was handed over to a secret election within the family. After being deposed, he fled to the elves, where he spent the rest of his life and, according to legends, participated in the construction of several important buildings.
Dynastic Information
The son of a man no one trusted
Edward I inherited the throne from Oled I, but along with the crown he also took on suspicion, hatred and the memory of Magnus' death. Many began to more openly point to his father as a murderer and usurper of the throne. It is uncertain whether this was a true moral awakening or simply that Eduard was unable to continue his father's system of bribery and coercion. Whatever the reasons, Eduard was on weak ground from the beginning. His problem was not his own incompetence, but the fact that his rule resembled the crime upon which his branch was founded.
The Houses of Youlenders and the End of the Line
The Youlender core of the house began to convene inner councils where they concluded that Oled's line must not continue. In their view, it was an impure path to power that could destabilize the entire empire and rekindle civil war. Eduard had no real leverage to defend himself. Most of the army sided with his relatives, and open resistance would mean a full-scale conflict. He therefore decided to abdicate, although his abdication was forced rather than voluntary.
Secret election and escape to the elves
After Edward's abdication, a wider assembly of the nobility was expected to be convened, but the core of the Youlenders feared that such a move could threaten the house's rule. Therefore, a secret election took place, known later as the Secret Election of the Emperor. Conrad II, Eduard's uncle and younger brother of Oled and Theodore II, was chosen as the new ruler. After this decision, Eduard decided to go south to the elves, where he had friends since childhood. He spent the rest of his life in elven lands. According to legends, he participated in the construction of the Great Theater, the Elf Museum and the Usehala cemetery, where the remains of former elf rulers were transported.
